Tim Mentz, former Standing Rock THPO, describes the destruction of sacred sites by constructions crews working on behalf of the Dakota Access Pipeline. This destruction occurred a day after Standing Rock had declared the information describing these sacred sites and their exact location in papers filed in federal court.
The team, led by Tim, documented 82 stone features and archeological sites, including at least 27 burials, on the private property.
The response from DAPL was brutal and damaging. As people desperately tried to stop the destruction of graves and other sites of cultural significance, they were met with a security firm hired by the pipeline company that met them with attack dogs and sprayed them with Pepper Spray.
